Trends in Marine Corps Business Communication
The Marine Corps, like every other business today, relies solely on the ability to communicate.   This can be said because yes, the military is nothing more than a business.   This can be seen with all of the contractors now days that are doing the same job without the military strictness and guidelines.   According to Locker and Kienzler (2008), there are ten trends in business that affect communication, they are: technology, customer needs, entrepreneurship, teamwork, diversity, globalization, legal and ethical concerns, balancing work and family, job flexibility, and the rapid rate of change.
Business communication plays a vital role in my daily work life.   From talking to my junior Marines in order to pass word and assign tasks for the day to writing letters explaining what happened during a certain time period.   I have to be able to communicate to individuals all over the world at any given time and thanks to the internet, email, video-conferencing, fax, teleconferencing, and instant messaging I am able to do this with little to no real effort on my part.   More often than not, I send emails to various people requesting all sorts of information that would takes weeks to get otherwise.   However, although the technology is convenient, communication still relies heavily on a more personal level and the Marine Corps has taught me how to talk to superiors with respect and tact as well as convey a message to my juniors without belittling them or otherwise confusing them.  
Technology is the driving force behind the trends in communication.   As customers needs change and businesses try to stretch further and further across the globe, technology has no option but to advance in order to keep up.   Over the years, the mode of communication has changed, from handwritten letters to emails and instant messages, with many steps in-between.   The Marine Corps is no different, from teaching each individual Marine how to communicate...
