I was assigned to the role of Health, Safety & Fire Co-ordinator within Peterhead prison and carried out this role for approximately 2 and a half years, prior to transferring to the new prison, HMP & YOI Grampian in October 2013. Prior to this appointment I was a Deputy Fire Safety Officer for 6 years. During that time I have gained a lot of valuable experience before taking on the responsibility of coordinating, implementing and monitoring all aspects of Health and Fire Safety Management, including the co-ordination of all accident and fire alarm investigations.These responsibilities required me to advise and assist Managers and Staff to enable them to fulfil their respective Health & Safety responsibilities competently and in accordance with legislation and SPS Health & Safety policies and procedures. I manage and coordinate the establishment’s Fire Safety and Health & Safety action plans, management information and specific agenda items required for the local bi-monthly Health, Safety & Fire meetings. This information provides the Governor and Senior Management team with compliance data and assurance that as an establishment we are actively seeking to maintain a positive safety culture.In this role I am responsible for the planning, implementing and recording of fire evacuations, fire response procedure drills as well as Senior Managers fire safety inspections throughout the establishment.
