Developing Leaders at Ups

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study the UPS case and determine what leadership traits and characteristics the employee of 30 years allowing her ( Jovita Carranza ), many promotions and advancement within the organization.   We will also observe the specific characteristics she implemented in or to be a successful and effective leader.

What are the major skills Jovita Carranza has demonstrated in her career at UPS that have made her a successful leader?
Jovita demonstrated strong work ethic and a commitment to UPS and she took advantage of opportunities that were available to her, (p 79). This is an indication that she is honest, trustworthy, and you can depend on her/accountability with integrity. An employee as this is a great performer and will abide by the company rules and policies. Jovita remains positive no matter what the ups and downs are on her job.   Her response to negative outcomes was handled in a professional and healthy manner.   She humbled herself to situations that may not have been pleasing.   Jovita started as a part-time clerk and demonstrated perseverance, which allowed her to move up the ladder continuously. She demonstrated being a team leader by helping others without being asked. Jovita had a vision and she stayed on course.   She displayed a willingness to learn and to do the best that she can with each position she held. Jovita understood the organizational culture and was able to embrace and develop teamwork within the company.   Jovita worked hard and was willing to reach out and help others along the way. She had a lot of influence with UPS and was able to encourage them to cater to the needs of the employees. Jovita does more than just the bare minimum and has the discipline of staying focus and being responsible. She has a clear understanding of the mission statement implemented at UPS and understanding the expectations of the organization.   She is confident and understands how to draw the trust from others.
