Unit 030 – Understand How to Support Positive Outcomes for Children and Young People
Outcome 1 – Understand how the social, economic and cultural environment can impact on the outcomes and life chances of children and young people
      1.1 Describe the social, economic and cultural factors that will impact on the lives of children and young people
There are several reasons that have an impact on a child or young person within my care. It part of my role to recognise these and try to diminish their impact
  * Personal choice – The children and young person’s attain the right to make decisions for themselves highlighted under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. If the child or young person makes negative choices such a drug taking and smoking then this can have a huge impact on their lives. These choices may stem from not having positive influences on their lives.
  * Being in the care system – The individual may feel lost, angry or confused and it is quite possible they have suffered abuse before prior to care. They may suffer massive disorder resulting in them making wrong personal choices. The child or young person’s may also feel victimised, judged and excluded because of their ‘status’.
  * Poverty – If they are living in poverty, they may suffer as a result. Their health may be poor because of their poor diet and housing, and their guardians may not be able to provide for them as they had hoped. Clothing may not be presentable and they may miss out on activities with their peers. They may also, depending on the individual be bullied.
  * Housing and community - There are various communities where the child or young person may witness or be a victim of crime, gang culture, bullying etc. The child or young person may also lead a shielded upbringing within a discreet community then struggle as they grow up and then they are unable afford to live in the same community in which they grew up in.
