Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
      1.1) Different types of abuse
Physical: Assault, hitting, slapping, pushing, misuse of medicine, inappropriate restraining.

Sexual: Rape, indecent exposure, sexual harassment, inappropriate looking and touching, forced to watch pornography or watch sexual acts.

Emotional/Psychological: Humiliation, blaming, controlling, intimidation, harassment, verbal abuse, isolation, bullying through social media, threats of harm and abduction.
Financial: Theft, fraud, scamming, coercion in personal finance with regard to a will, inheritance etc.

Institutional: Neglect, inappropriate care practise.

Self-neglect:   Neglecting medical needs, not taking medication, lack of personal hygiene, not eating, drinking healthy, not exercising.

Neglect by others: Ignoring physical and medical needs, failure to provide adequate healthcare, with holding basic essentials such as medication and nutritional needs.

      1.2)   Signs and symptoms of abuse.
Physical: History of unexplained injury’s, unexplained bruising, burns, cuts etc in unusual areas of the body, Injury’s in different stages of healing, slap or fingertip marks, untreated injuries.

Sexual: Sudden changes in behaviour, withdrawal, inappropriate sexual behaviours in children, disturbed sleeping patterns, stained clothing, STI’s, pain,   itching, bleeding and bruising in the genital area, bruising to arms/legs, pregnancy.

Emotional/Psychological:   Low self-esteem, confusion, agitation, dislike of confided spaces, tearfulness, paranoid, becoming isolated, lack of personal respect, fearfulness, avoidance, inappropriate deprivation of liberty, withdrawn.

Financial: Unexplained shortage of money, can’t pay bills, lacks basic items they should be able to afford, power of attorney obtained when the person doesn’t have mental capacity to consent, items going missing, unusual withdrawal of large sums of money or regular smaller...
