Grigori Rasputin

Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin was known as a holy monk and he was believed to have been able to cure people with his mind. Although he was a monk he behaved like a tramp and lived like one. With no house or wealth Rasputin lived on the streets along with other tramps. At the time Rasputin was around, the tsar of Russia Nicholas the II had a son called Alexei Nikolayevich who was suffering from a disease called haemophilia. This disease meant that when you stated to bleed it could never stop because the blood wouldn’t clot. There was no cure for this so when the tsarina heard about Rasputin she invited him for lunch at the royal palace with everybody. Rasputin arrived at the palace wearing old rags, unshaven and smelling. He ate like a pig and he was telling rude stories to the tsar’s son. The tsar could not take his appalling behaviour any longer and kicked him out of the palace.
    A few days later the royal family went to the church for prayer. As they stood and listened to the priest young Alexei was looking at the beautiful paintings on the ceiling. Suddenly blood started to run down his nose and his mum quickly realised. His sisters and his mum rushed him out of the church and the tsar tried to pull them back because nobody knew that the tsar’s son had this problem. They laid Alexei on a bed and wrapped bandages around him. The doctor stood and watched and he could not do anything. The tsarina ordered her men to go and find Rasputin. When they had found him they returned to the room where Alexei was. Rasputin knelt beside the bed and started to pray to god. He was crying and praying, everybody was standing thinking what on earth is going on and as Rasputin took off the bandages the bleeding had stopped! It was a miracle! The tsarina couldn’t believe it that he had saved her son’s life and she awarded him with a huge house, a car, gold and made him extremely wealthy.
