Introduction: For this assignment I have observed sessions by three lecturers within different subject areas. The lesson I am going to focus on is a lesson that I observed within the Music Technology Level 2 Course

The Session: Aims and outcomes were set out at the beginning of the lesson and were also set out on the College VLE. The lesson concerned using Dynamic Effects in a music recording. The tutor used a smart board presentation (which was uploaded to the VLE for future student reference) to explain the details of these effects, with links to youtube videos showing how these effects are used in commercial recordings. This also linked to the overall assignment for the unit which covers this aspect of the recording process. After the presentation and watching the videos, learners split into small groups to perform a task on a computer recording system, which specifically used the effects being discussed. Then individually, learners were asked to complete a short questionnaire on 5 elements of using these effects. All through the session the tutor asked questions of and opinions from the learners. There was also a good amount of one to one tutoring, for those who may have struggled with the concepts when acting as a group. The presentation, choice of videos, group and individual tutoring and the questionnaire seemed well prepared, and were inclusive of all learners. There was a logical and easily understood link between the theory and practice of using dynamic effects, and the conclusion of the session pointed towards further studies and subsequent sessions, and linked directly to other related assignments. Learners were given the opportunity to give feedback on the session to see if the aims and outcomes had been achieved.
