1.1
The groups of individuals that communication needs to be addressed in my job role are:
• Clients which can include dealing with complex communication needs such as Makaton.
• Families of the clients, the families may need help understanding what is been communicated and also need to be communicated with more empathetically.
• Staff who work both on and off site. Communication needs to be open and direct and not allow for confusion.  
• Health care professionals such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists etc. communication needs to be direct and it is important to understand the types of medical terminology that is used.
• Outside agencies such as the Care Quality Commission, police force, social services etc. it is important to develop an open and honest communication pattern with these agencies and communicate in a professional manner.

I support effective communication within my job role by communicating with each individual in a personalised way, ensuring that what is being communicated is being understood by the individual and they are in a position that they feel empowered and confident to communicate in return. If an individual needs support communicating in different formats such as pictorial format, then these aids are obtained and the individual is supported to use them in a way that is comprehensible to all that is involved.

The barriers and challenges that arise in my job role arise when the people who I am communicating with do not communicate in the same manner I am accustomed with or need extra support. This can come in many forms, a client needing different formats of communication such as sign language or pictorial cards. A clients family who have emotional ties with the client who needs a more empathetic approach and may need to hear what is been communicated in a simpler form than the communication already being used.
