Brave New World Essay

In the world today overpopulation is a threatening problem and one way to stop overpopulation is through eugenics. Society today is moving towards what Huxley envisioned in his book Brave New World. By making sure only a select group of people can reproduce one can control or reduce overpopulation and create a more perfect society as in Brave New World. We should move towards what Huxley envisioned today.
Eugenics is a practice which aims at improving the genetic quality of the human population. It is a social philosophy supporting the improvement of human genetic traits through the promotion of higher reproduction of people with desired traits (positive eugenics), or reduced reproduction and or sterilization of people with less-desired or undesired traits (negative eugenics), or both. Therefore, someone can control who reproduces and who does not reproduce in society. In Brave New World they use eugenics when the Alphas who work in the hatchery control how and when the next babies are born in the system. When the Alphas take the petri dishes with the babies in them and decide what they are going to be in the community and how they will help out the community, so that everything is balanced. Alphas pour alcohol into the petri dishes of people who will become part of the lower class because their minds would be affected by then alcohol and would not be as smart as the Alphas and Betas. The hatchery uses eugenics to aid their society, and to pick and choose who will contribute to the society and who will be there to do the everyday jobs like the Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons.
