World War II
Introduction
When the world is at war, you can’t hide, and you can’t run away. I chose World War II because I knew I could find a lot of cool and different facts using this bigger subject. I will be discussing how it started, Pearl Harbor, Holocaust, D-Day and V-G Day, the Atomic Bombing, and V-J Day. This paper will prove that World War II had an impact on the world today.
How It Started
German was blamed for starting World War I, So to stop Germany from starting a new war, The Treaty of Versailles were created. ”The treaty tried to stop Germany from becoming powerful enough to start another one” (Ambrose, 6). But then Hitler, The leader of the Nazi Party, came to power. He promised his people that he would make Germany strong again. Hitler made an alliance with Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, and took over Austria and part of Czechoslovakia. France and Britain’s leaders gave into some of Hitler’s demands. But then Hitler ordered the invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, So France and Britain declared war. Then Japan joined in for more power, and attacked America’s military base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, World War II in the pacific had begun just begun.
Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941, lead by Japan’s Lieutenant Commander Mitsuo Fuchida, an attack was made on Pearl Harbor. “Their mission was to destroy the U.S. planes on the ground before they could respond” (Beller, 14). Their code for attack was “Tora! Tora! Tora!” (Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!). Pearl Harbor is a strong and well protected United State’s navy base. The Japanese hoped to cripple the U.S.A.’s pacific fleet. At the time of the attack, 98 ships were docked in Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were able to sink or seriously damage 18 ships, and kill or hurt over 4,600 men.
