The Era of Touch Screen Technology

The touchscreen is an intuitive, elegant and effective interface whose usefulness in the modern information society is shown by its prevalence in the world around us. Touchscreen technology has been around since the early 1970’s. In fact Doctor Sam Hurst is credited with the first “touch sensor” back in 1971 while at the University of Kentucky (Taylus Par 1). The massive improvement of hardware that allowed better, more-sensitive screens capable of higher resolution to take care of the increasing display size. We use this technology in our daily life activities. We find it embedded in phones, office equipment, speakers, digital photo frames, TV control buttons, remote controls, GPS systems, ATM machines, gas stations, desktops, automotive keyless entry, and medical monitoring equipment. Touchscreens are everywhere. Resistive, surface ware and capacitive are the three types of touch screen technologies. Since touch screen is an input device it needs to be connected to some other devices. There are three basic components of touch screen these are touch sensor, controller and software driver.
