Summarise entitlement and provision for early years education.
Early year’s provision in school is about supporting children from a very young age.   Every child of age 3 and now some children if their families are eligible are entitled to 15 hours of free early year’s education every week for 38 weeks of the year, as part of the Every Child Matters agenda funded by the government via local authorities . This education is usually accessed via nursery schools or pre-schools, an early education within nursery or pre-school settings enables the child to play with other children and develop friendships, therefore promoting the childs social, physical and mental development.   They also benefit from having access to a wide range of stimulating learning experiences. Early education within nurseries and pre-schools help the children prepare for school. Early years education is provided using ‘learning through play’ rather than formal education as play carries an important role in the early development of young children and is a good base for their education.   The learning is managed by adults working alongside children in a range of activities which involve the use of numbers, colours, shapes etc. The children are also encouraged to independently select activities both indoors and outdoors in order to develop their independence and self-assurance.
