Obesity Effects on Our Nation

General Purpose: To persuade

Specific Purpose: I will persuade my audience on the various reasons why fast food chains should face certain regulations as a result of the nation’s obesity problem.
Audience Analysis: My audience is a class of students, most of which are consumers of fast food restaurants. These individuals purchase food from fast food chains because its cheap and convenient for them to get. However, most of these individuals may not be aware of the health risks associated with these types of fast food. As a result, these fast food chains should face regulations in order to reduce our nation’s obesity problem.

In addition, the fast food industry spends $4.2 billion on advertisements and McDonalds has thirteen different websites that 365,000 kids and 249,000 teens visit each month. These statistics prove that even young developing kids and teenagers can become obese if they continue to dine at fast food restaurants like McDonalds. | Attention Getter(Betsy Mckay, The Wall Street Journal 2012) |
