Memories Are Important
Memories are an important part of what keeps society together, what shapes our culture, and most importantly what shapes us as individuals. One way to keep your memories together is having photographs or videos of your life. Everything we know is part of our memory all our past experiences and all we have done. However, sometimes, memory poses some problems; unpleasant memories can make us angry, depressed, and, sometimes, scared. Photographs are a mere shadow of our true selves. This is one specific picture in my album that always grabs my attention. That is when I was one year old; this picture means so much to me because I'm representing my culture. In my family, photographs play such an important meaning in our lives, because they preserve memories and emotions.
The Mexican culture is one of the most fascinating cultures in the entire world. Being a Mexican makes me very proud of myself because we preserve our ancestors' traditions. On the 3rd of October of every year, almost everyone dresses their children as Indians because we celebrate a saint that's called "Señor de la misericordia," which means "Lord of mercy." In these photographs, I'm one year old, my mother is grabbing me from the back, and I'm dressed like an Indian. I have a long colorful skirt, with a yellow/red apron around my waist, a white blouse with blue flowers, many necklaces, and a shawl over my hair; I am also covered in makeup. The background of this picture is a painting of houses and lots of trees. This picture means a lot to me because it makes me bring many happy memories.
Even though I was really small, and I can't remember much about this day, every time I look at it, a lot of memories come to mind. I remember when this picture was taken. I was living in Michoacán, Mexico a whole different place. I had other beliefs, didn't know nothing about life, and I didn't have problems. I look very happy and I look very desperate in this picture. I wasn't even facing...
