Gay Marriage or Just Marriage?

When you look up the definition of marriage, you find, “1. The formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife. 2. (In some jurisdictions) a formal union between partners of the same sex.” The words, “in some jurisdictions” are the problem. Gay marriage should be legal in every state in this nation because it is a human right that everyone should be able to enjoy.
Basic rights of people are things like being able to own a house if you want, being able to have children if you want and being able to marry. People of the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community are being deprived of their basic rights. In an article, “Should Gay Marriage Be Legal?” they state, “The 1967 Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia confirmed that marriage is "one of the basic civil rights of man," and yet the Supreme Court has not ruled gay marriage as legal. Marriage should be based upon love not gender. It means more than a piece of paper. If a heterosexual couple was deprived of being married, I’m sure there would be uproar against that.
Some people say gay marriage harms children. People who discriminate against gay marriage feel as if gay parents will make the child have an unhealthy lifestyle that demotes the child’s overall well being. In a research done by the American Psychological Association, they concluded that, “Whereas discrimination against lesbian and gay parents deprives their children of benefits, rights, and privileges enjoyed by children of heterosexual married couples,” this shows that the affect of children comes from people discriminating instead of accepting. Another thing the APA concludes is, “Whereas there is no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents to provide supportive...
