Reflective day in workplace


My name is Lisa Hookway I am a project manager for Creative Support Prevention Service supporting Adults with Learning disabilities who are not eligible to community care services.
I manage two paid members of staff and 10 volunteers, this service predominately runs Monday-Friday 8.30am-4.30pm we offer social opportunities out of these hours.

I would like to talk about a day that I had at work on Wednesday 6th November 2013.
I arrived at work on time and signed in the signing in book, this is required by organisation to ensure that we know who is in the building in case of emergencies such as a fire alarm. This meets one of the requirements for the health and safety at work act.

I then completed our monthly safety checks this includes, electrical, fire exits, fire equipment, I am required to follow polices of the organisation ensure that we are meeting Electricity at work Reg: 1989, Regulatory reform (fire safety) order 2005 to ensure the safety of staff and members in a safe environment. This meets a number of requirements for the health and safety at work act.
By carrying out these checks I identified that the Pac testing on our electrical equipment and Extinguisher testing were out of date, I documented this information in the health and safety folder. I contact our health and safety team in Manchester to report and organise for an engineer to retest ASAP.

I then accessed my emails to ensure that I responded to any enquiries about the service or the projects we currently have running.

At 9.30am a members dropped into the Drop-in for support with their water bill, home insurance and enquiries with their income tax.
I wrote a letter on behave of this member as they have had a water leak, it had taken some time for the housing association to repair this leak, she wanted to make a claim to be reimbursed a % due to the bill being so high.
