Conflict

Conflict is a disagreement or argument and comes in many forms such as leadership, historical, family or relationships. Conflict never has a consistently positive or negative outcome in every situation. There are a broad number of results that may fit into the positive or negative classification but conflict may lead to the continuing of the conflict or a situation that may never change. Change may be the reason for the conflict that occurs. Although the word conflict has negative connotations you must recognise that a disagreement can have a positive aspect depending on the motives and expectations of those involved.

“Family is conflict and it’s something that we all relate to” Bill Cosby. With any family there is some type of conflict which may lead to major or minor changes in the family. Some families endure major family conflict that can remodel a family situation. In the Happiest Refugee, Anh Do father becomes an alcoholic due to the families financial situation and becomes very violent towards his mum. When he leaves the family suddenly, Anh takes step up and decides to protect him mum if his father ever came back “If he lays a finger on her, I will kill him”.


For everyday after this event Anh’s relationship with his father crumbled. Anh had spent his whole life looking up to his dad and wanting to be like him to not wanting anything to do with him or have him as a role model, Anh’s personal conflict with his father had a negative outcome on the relationship and changed the way that Anh thought about his father and their entire relationship. Anh faces the stress and embarrassment of not having the money for textbooks. He didn’t want to take the handouts that the teachers offered him or be known as a needy boy. QUOTE.
