Abuse

I have chosen to write the following essay on Abuse.   Abuse can take on many forms in the care setting firstly I will talk about Verbal Abuse.   Verbal abuse happens when one individual uses words to offend another person.   It often involves criticizing another and can take the form of “putdowns” and name calling this is often intended to upset and devalue the person it is aimed at.   It can often be used in a manipulative way to make the individual feel as if it is their fault.   Comments like “it is all in your head” are common.   Verbal abuse can often go on for a long period of time as it is not always recognised as abuse.   This can cause a detrimental effect on a person’s self-esteem and self-worth and can be very damaging to a person’s psyche.     Another form of abuse which is also not easily recognised is Psychological abuse which can also be named Mental or Emotional abuse.   This happens when an individual withholds or emits information which should be freely available to the person.   This in turn warps their sense of perception or reality.   Sometimes it is carried out for the individual to gain a sense of power or compliance from the person.   An example of psychological abuse would be a paedophile telling a victim “You made me do it by being a slut” or by “wearing those tight clothes”.   This type of abuse can easily go unnoticed and can result in severe emotional and psychological damage.     A more obvious type of abuse would be Physical Abuse.   This happens when an individual uses physical pain and violence to gain power and compliance from a person.   It may start with slaps and pushes but could even go as far as a beating using kicks punches and weapons.   In some cases the physical damage to a person may be so severe they require medical treatment or even hospitalization. In some severe cases death maybe an outcome of physical abuse.   It is still abuse even if no marks or bruises are left on the person who is being abused.   Even the threat of physical...
