Rewrite - “Parody”

I am the cowardly lion, or I used to be called that at least. I live in the forest right off from the yellow brick road. I have the title “King of the Forest”, but I did not used to live up to that name. I was extremely shy, I hardly talked to anyone, until one day. I encountered a young girl wearing red shoes and her interesting friends. I am going to tell you the story of that eventful time that gave me a whole new perspective on life.

One eerie night while laying on my rock, I suddenly heard singing. Being shy, I quietly stepped down off my rock, and crept behind a tree. I still could not hear them as well and moved closer and closer until the singing was completely audible. The figures were coming closer, and I noticed that one of the figures was a young red head, the other two were odd looking. They were a scarecrow and a tin man, I thought to myself, “You do not see that everyday.” So after a minute, I mustered up all the courage I had and went out from behind my tree roaring. I tried to act tough and play it off like I really was “King of the Forest.”

I said “Put ‘em up, put ‘em up!” Then I tried to fight the tin man and scarecrow, while the little girl stood off to the side, frightened. I had never frightened someone before, it felt good to see the fear that I brought on. But that annoying little dog was barked the entire time, so I wanted to bite him to hush the puppy up. When I started chasing him, the red head chased me and slapped me across the face. I broke down crying, and that is when my true colors started showing. After a while of sobbing, the young lady told me about the Wizard of Oz, and how he could give me courage if I asked for it. I cautiously agreed and the four of us all went skipping down the yellow brick road to Emerald City, singing.

When we finally arrived to the Emerald City, Dorothy and I were chosen to go in to meet the Wizard of Oz. We walked down a long corridor and finally approached the room,...
