Cultural Diffusion in Western Civilization

Cultural diffusion happens when ideas of a particular culture spread into another culture and this usually happens through wars and trade, but most commonly through war and happens with time. When two different empires are at war they knowingly or unknowingly influence each other’s culture, the two cultures tend to come together and these set up relationships between the two empires because each has one thing or the other each needs to survive. These usually results in an exchange of good and services between the two civilizations and thus cultural diffusion takes place.
History says that the ideas and techniques formed in the river valleys of the Tigris-Euphrates (Sumerians) and the Nile (Egyptians) began to spread outward” and for 1,000 years, these brought about cultural diffusion to the ancient Near East’s history, cultural diffusion can also be said to be a process by which a zone of higher civilization expands and new peoples joins the ranks of the more civilized.  This process of cultural diffusion is complex, and it occurs in different ways. Merchants, soldiers, and diplomats carry ideas and techniques from one people to another. Let’s take the Persians for example, there rise to greatness began with their king Cyrus at about 559 BC who delivered them from a vicious rule from Medes and became king of a smaller Persian tribe. He first overthrew the Medes and began his conquest of creating a larger Persian Empire. His conquest brought about a union of the Persian areas with the ancient Mesopotamian and other rulers after him with time added Egypt and extended the Persian Empire east to the Indus River.
