Confucianism

In today’s society, the topic of religion has proven to be extremely controversial. It is believed by many that discussing religion in mixed company is impolite, as not everyone believes in the same religion. It is the right of every man or woman to believe in whatever religion they choose. There are many different religions for one to believe in, religions with different rules and beliefs and practices. It is evident in today’s society that religion can separate people. Yet, all religions are bound together through the seven dimensions of religions. Every single religion can be illustrated through these elements. Confucianism is no exception to this rule. The three most dominant and important dimensions displayed in Confucianism are ritual, ethical and doctrinal.

Confucianism is demonstrated through its ritual elements. An example of a ritual within the Confucianism religion is the honouring of ancestors. Confucians promote ancestor worship by burning paper money and offering food to respect the lives of the dead on April fifth (Confucianism-stages and rituals of life Transformation). Basically, this religion holds a lot of respect for those who passed on before them. They believe it is only right to pay their respects to those who already lived. Those who lived before them have experienced things they’ve yet to experience, and have gained wisdom from these occurrences. This demonstrates the appreciation Confucians have for those who have already lived there life and for all the knowledge they have gained along the way. By observing those who have already made mistakes they can educate themselves to avoid making the same mistakes. This process is considered a ritual as it happens on the same day every year. Another ritual within the Confucianism religion can be seen through the marriage ceremony. During the ceremony the bride and the groom pay their honour to the heavens and earth and their ancestors (Confucianism-stages and rituals of life Transformation)....
