Structure language and theme

Physical journeys involve different types of obstacles and movement to new places. They provide opportunities for travellers to extend themselves physically, intellectually and emotionally as they respond to challenges and learn more about themselves and the world around them.

Consider the power of the physical journey to challenge their thinking
All families different but linked together in their need to escape from their lives and take a break and journey to a new play to be renewed physically and spiritually

A physical journey is travelling and discovering new places and people across the lands and into other countries. Journey involves different types of obstacles and pathways to opportunities that may help you find the path to self discovery

Away brings them home to the same old world but with renewed sense of reality.

Away is essentially about coming home, o undertaking a journey from ignorance to knowledge; from blindness to insight. At the end, the characters have a new understanding of the world around them because they have accepted the motives, ambitions, hopes and fears which determine their actions

TECHNIQUES
The Stranger on the shore, playlet performed by Tom and Coral on amateur night is symbolic.. It functions as a tragic interlude, a play within a play which deals with love, sacrifice and death. In showing coral how to walk again, it tells all the characters how to find their way home after their time away from themselves and each other.


Setting –

These families make a physical journey, to and from a destination – they “go away” to the beach. Each destination/accommodation and mode of travel signifies the social status of each family; this distinction is used to show the physical and social difference between each group. For eg.
