Imperialism

Imperialism is when a stronger country dominates a weaker country. Imperialism brought many positive and negative effect for both India and the British colonizers. India suffered with starvation but they also progressed in trading and growth of ideas with the help of the British colonizers. British people gained a lot of profit from india but later india turned their back on British because everything was given to them.        

Imperialism is when a stronger country dominates a weaker country. British ruled South Asia from 1858 to 1947 which is commonly known as India. The causes for India control were that British wanted power. India did not have a strong military and british people took the opportunity to imperialize. British used old imperialism, instead of just taking power over India, they created trade routes to trade merchandise with India. British established a company for trading. The British saw that india had a population of over 300 million and used them to produce profit from cheap labor. These companies used indian’s natural resources to produce materials and sell them back to india. In 1947 British rule ended with peaceful protesting.

India had many positive effects from the British colonizers. These benefits includes the building of roads, canals, railways, and telegraphs. These advancements allowed India to expand their trading and grow a more successful market.   Since India was not a very educated society, the british shared knowledgeable information with India(Document#1).

“ They can also give these people the benefits of other blessing of civilization which they have not the means of creating themselves”(Doc.1).
Even though India received many positive effects from the British, they also received negative effects.
