Ethical issues are everywhere in the business world. Tom was an employee or a local privately owned manufacturing company for twelve years. He was considered to be a good worker, and highly respected by his peers, but Tom had an unethical secret that was beginning to come to light. Tom had been steeling scrap metal from the company for years and selling it for additional income.   His plan had been going great and no one was wise about his activities until the company did inventory, and notice the company had several inconsistencies in the parts replaced and the profits from scrap metal.   The company conducted a meeting with all the employees urging them if they knew who was stealing the scrap metal to inform the supervisor. Tom began to get worried, and decided to blame a fellow employee. The company installed several hidden cameras but refused to inform the employees to catch the individual in the act. It did not take long for time to be caught in the act.
Is this really unethical or is just a man looking for additional income. Ethical behavior is being in accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice.   Stealing will always be considered unethical. It is an issue that is not appropriate for anyone or any organization, but this is not the only unethical issue that Tom was guilty of committing in this situation. Deception is intentional lying or misleading an individual or organization to protect them or someone else. Tom was guilty of this when he attempted to blame another co worker to save his own job.
These can have dire affect for the company and the individual. Guilty often plays a role for the individual. The fact that Tom knows what he is doing is wrong, and blaming it on another person could cause his conscious to make him feel like n awful man.
