Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is a Fortune 1000 enterprise leading the plastic manufacturing industry. With production plants in Georgia, Michigan, and China and the international Head Quarters In San Jose California the company is poised to continue its domination of the industry, relying on state of the art plastic injection systems that set the industry standard. Customers of Riordan include automotive parts manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, beverage makers and bottlers the Department of Defense, and appliance manufacturers. Riordan sets the bar high meeting and exceeding several national and international production standards. Leading the industry is one of the companies main goals, research and development is and intends to maintain the industry leader in identifying trends. Shareholders receive good dividends on a regular basis increasing company worth on in the international market.
Riordan’s move overseas brings several issues to my attention regarding ethics. The entire fan division has been moved to Hangzhou, China. As the plant in China is not required to supply information regarding employees personal information like race sex or pay grade, there is some concern that our overseas coworkers are being treated correctly. Working conditions of the plant in China are also difficult to find when going through the business information. This is a concern because there are several international watchdog groups that investigate businesses that have production plants overseas while doing business in the United States. The company image would be damaged greatly if people work working in unsatisfactory conditions. China also has much more lenient laws regarding pollution. For example athletes that competed in the Beijing Olympics complained of shortness of breath when running and breathing the air. Riordan could face scrutiny here in the US for choosing China as a location for production for low wages and the lenient regulations about industrial pollution....
