Why People Commit Crime

It is hard to tell what motivates a person to steal, murder and do harm to others. People commit crime for love, jealousy and the greed for financial gain. But what is the thing inside of a person that motivated them to actually carry out the crime. Drugs and alcohol abuse play a huge factor in the crimes that are committed. In most cases of crime when heard before a judge does contain elements of drug and or alcohol abuse. Another key factor that plays a role in the different crimes that are committed is upbringing, or the environment in which a person is raised. Some people are raised in a crime type of environment and since that is what they have been taught, that is the behavior they display.

Explaining the Occurrence of Crime
When attempting to explain why people have the urge and ability to commit crime is an age an age old question even from a biblical age. What is the thought process of the criminal and what do the police and the community does to prevent such criminal acts. Crime occurs when there is a profound motivation that entices anger to become what the person’s reaction (Daniel J. Curran & Claire M. Renzetti December 2005). For example, if am man comes home from work and finds his wife in his bed with another man, this occurrence can cause him to commit what is commonly referred to as a crime of passion. This crime of passion ends up with the husband killing or even assaulting the wife of the man she was with. The occurrence of crime is an everyday happening and the people involved have the power to go forward with the crime or not to go forward with the crime. People often have the feeling that in committing a crime they had no choice which is called variables of crime.
