What We Gain by Seeing Ourselves Through the Eyes of Others

We as humans are flawed, but one thing we have that not many species do is the ability to feel empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. This ability enables us to feel ranges of emotions for others and grow closer. This also enables us to do something remarkable like see ourselves through the eyes of others. Doing so yields many benefits, but primarily, when we see ourselves through a different perspective we are able to accurately assess not only our positive characteristics, but also our shortcomings. When we are able to accurately aces our own character, we are then able to grow as people by taking our flaws into consideration. Putting ourselves in the shoes of others is someone everyone should try at least once in   their life.
Self-positivity in this age is hard to come by, as there are many negative perceptions and ideals that plague our lives. Although some people may see you through negative eyes, putting yourself in the shoes of someone you love and assessing your positive characteristics can have bountiful effects on our self-esteem. What you can do is imagine seeing yourself and good qualities through the eyes of someone who loves you, then, come back to your own perspective and notice how it feels to possess these qualities. Through this practice of positivity, you can begin to reclaim and embrace the good that you have overlooked, and see how lovable you really are.
