1.1           Policies and legislation are as follows

1.2     These legislations and policies are in place to help protect individuals with Learning disabilities and their families. This has made a great impact on individual’s lives which enables them to have a better quality of life.
2.1   Learning Disabilities refer to a number of disorders which may affect the acquisition, organization, retention, understanding or use of verbal or nonverbal information. These disorders affect learning in individuals who otherwise demonstrate at least average abilities essential for thinking and/or reasoning. As such, learning disabilities are distinct from global intellectual deficiency.  

2.2   The cause for a learning disability can vary from unknown factors also during or after birth, environmental, genetic and chromosomal factors.

2.3     The medical model is were   medical professionals only look at the illness presented and doesn’t look at any other factors i.e treating metal health they will give medication to treat the mental health however they won’t treat the   learning disability ect….
        The social model is where everything is looked at and assessed which includes every problem they have medical or other.

2.4   50 percent of people with mild learning disability the cause is unknown and 25 percent of moderate learning disability the cause is also unknown.

2.5   The impact on a family can range from the feeling of guilt, it can at times be quite stress full and demanding however it also can be rewarding , families can also be conscious about taking their siblings out for the fear of people discriminating against them.

3.1     types of services there has been in the past include institutions , asylums , hospitals on a long term basis   , special schools , community support...
