Cataract is a very common eye disorder all across the globe. Almost 60% people who are above the age of 60 have a chance of developing cataracts. Even people of younger age these days complain about this disorder. Cataract is nothing but a cloudy or opaque area in the lens of the eye, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. The lens of our eyes works just like a camera lens, focusing light onto the retina at the back of the eye. The lens also adjusts the eye's focus, letting us see things clearly both up close and far away.

Cataract can occur in one or both the eyes. It cannot spread from one eye to the other. There are various causes of cataract like any eye injury or trauma, genetic factors, exposure to ultraviolet light, diet high in vitamin A, heavy alcohol consumption, ageing, and heavy medication or can be caused due to certain disorders like diabetes etc. Few signs and symptoms of Cataract are cloudy, blurry, and hazy vision, problems with light, faded colours and poor night vision. Frequent changes in prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses can also be a symptom for this disorder. It can lead to blindness.
