Outline the key points of the theory. | Piaget had two part theories; where children go through 4 stages of development and abilities to young adults, these are: Stage one; sensori-motor (birth to about 2 years). Stage two; Pre-operational (about 2 to 6 years). Stage 3; concrete operational stage (about 6 to 12 years). Stage four; Formal operational stage (about 12 years onwards). His second theory was about Schemas; how children acquire knowledge. | Vygotsky’s theory was about the social environment where his theory included the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), in study topic 3, Miller, Devereux , Goodliff, Craft and Callan comment on the learning through development, what the child does to when an adult supports the child through interaction and guidance, they are able to do this skill independently as they’ve had the guidance from others, gaining their skills, thinking and understanding. |
