Narrative opening:
It was the ninth of May around 1:00 a.m. and I still had not heard a word from my son. We had been worrying ourselves sick wondering what could have happened after he left prom earlier that night. The parents of Nolen’s friends had been calling to see if we had heard from one of them. A few of the parents even stopped by thinking maybe they had been to our house to change. There was a knock at the door. I turned the door knob quickly, expecting to see a familiar parent’s face. However, I was frightened by Officer John’s long face. My heart begin to beat very fast as I spit out the words, “Good evening Officer John, May I help you?” The next few words that were spoken broke my heart so badly that I cannot ever recall them. Nonetheless, this was the very minute I found out that my seventeen-year-old son had been killed by a drunk driver.

You might ask, “So, where do we go from here?” Well, the first thing America needs to do is start recycling. This is the most important thing that we can do to save our land. If we produce less trash, then the space provided for waste can be cut and pollution will be reduced.
