1.2 Describe the roles of different agencies involved in safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
Task 2 - Below, list 4 agencies who are involved in safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, explaining what their role is.

  1 Police
The police protect children from harm with the help of children’s social care. The child abuse investigation unit in each police force is responsible for taking care of any police matter which involves child abuse of safeguarding issues. Their roles are to carry out criminal investigations, gather evidence, get statements from all parties involved in the safeguarding of the child, and remove the child from immediate danger.

  2 Children’s social care
When concern has been raised about a child and they may be in potential danger the children’s social care are responsible for deciding the actions which are to be taken. This ultimately means that they have to decide whether or not the child will be removed and put into care. They work closely with schools and other agencies. They carry out assessments and interviews to get to the bottom of it and liaise with relevant agencies.
