Substance Abuse

The viewpoint that I most agree with when it comes down to substance abuse and its
treatment is that all viewpoint and treatments are valuable according to each individual behavior
and needs when it comes down to substance abuse and treatment.   For example with
sociocultural viewpoint is that personal behavior whether it is normal or abnormal it is shaped
and created by their environment.   Behavioral and cognitive is another viewpoint that I agree
with, that states the fact that this abuse comes from operating conditioning in which a person
seeks temporary release of tension when dealing with stress.   When a person seeks this type of
release they build an expectancy that the substances will give to the user.   I agree with this
because we can look at this not from just the stand point of cocaine, alcohol, marijuana but some
people abuse prescription drugs or over the counter medicine for the same reasons to get the
relieve they need from a stressful situation.

Sociocultural treatments consist of self-help programs, culture- and gender-sensitive
programs and community prevention programs.   Behavioral and cognitive treatment consist of
the person gaining control of the substance abuse in which they are taught how to monitor their
action while drinking, what, when, where, this will usually help them with their progress.   These
two approach to treating an individual that has a substance abuse I agree with hold hearty which
to me seems to be a better approach than as with the Biological view approach of detoxification,
than an antagonist drug.   I believe that with these treatments a person can stay in control and play
a big role in their progress and process.
