Coming of Age essay

      Before we start talking about Coming of age lets start off by stating what it is. Coming of age means growing up. Changing by doing childish things to being mature and an adult.
The characters from Always Running and to kill a Mockingbird relate to Loss of Innocence. Scouts dad defended Negros. This is loss of innocence because Scouts dad stood up for what he thought was right. (Lee.36)
Another way from Always Running and to kill a mockingbird relate to loss of innocence is when he said “It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived.” (Harper Lee.78)
As you know gender roles describe coming of age. So one way from Always Running and to kill a mockingbird relate to gender roles is when Harper seemed glad to see me when he appeared in the kitchen, he saw scout have some skills even though she was a girl. It shows that the mom trust them and knows they can do it. She knows they can take responsibilities for there actions. Another one is when Jim condescended to take scout to the school the first day. Usually that is done by your own parent so I think that shows responsibility. (Lee.15)
