Social Web

The social web has changed over the years. Social web is a set of social relations that link people through the World Wide Web. It encompasses how websites and software are designed and developed in order to support and foster social interactions. The social web was dated from the 1960s, and was one of the first social applications to connect multiple individuals through a network, enabling social interaction by allowing users to send message to one or more people. Social web can be used for online interactions such as shopping, education, gaming, and social networking websites.   Throughout this paper I will discuss social webbing today and tomorrow’s technologies and their positive and negative impact on society.
The internet is a vast worldwide collection of computer networks that links smaller networks. The essential ingredient that makes the Internet revolutionary is that people enter into it each day, and they leave a footprint of knowledge and of themselves as they travel through the web. Pg.363-364.The internet had its beginnings as the ARPnet during the 1960s, when the Cold War threat was at its peak. ARPA, the United States Defense Departments Advanced Research Projects Agency, was focused on the nation’s computer security. The ARPA networked was designed as a way to link computers at laboratories across the country for the purposes of sharing computing recourses (Hafner & Lyon).
Today the ARPAnet has disappeared, officially becoming extinct in 1989 when it was replaced by the Internet, which has become a massive public and private web connecting millions of people together and supplying them with limitless amount of information. The internet is a connection of computer networks that link to each other all over the world. The main way the Internet is accessed is through an application called the browser. The browser, a free program is the gateway to everything you might want to do online.
