Roles, Responsibilities and Boundaries of a Teacher

Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching training cycle

Roles, responsibilities and boundaries are evolving qualities within the teacher which are assessed and reflected upon using the teaching training cycle.  
The cycle is divided into five key aspects providing a cohesive structure.

Identifying needs – Finding out the needs of the establishment and the learners. Assessing the learners current knowledge against the standard required. Application and self assessment forms.   Disability requirements? Selection of an adequate venue to ensure equal learning opportunities. Preparing schemes of work appropriate to the individual or group learning.

Plan and design -   Preparing the environment. Ensuring suitable delivery resources.
Assess couse objectives. Produce lesson plans and course material.   Consider room layout and equipment required. Develop and produce lesson plans and incorporate the above needs into the plans.

Deliver and facilitate - Initial induction to the training facility and the course.
Having a thorough understanding and knowledge of the subject/s to be delivered.
Consideration should be made for the different learning styles utilizing the VAK / Vark system to ensure that all learning styles are catered for.
The appropriate use of presentation methods such as powerpoint, flipcharts DVD’setc. Incorporation of group discussions and demonstrations. Promote interaction by moving learners around.   Consider 1 to 1 tutoring sessions. Establish professional boundaries between tutor and learners, Fairness to all students.

Assessment – Initial / Formulative / Summative
Application forms / Questionnaires. Review of learners progress through reflective learning journals.   Provide constructive feedback.   Marking work.   Establish the results and reflect on the effectiveness of the sessions. Final assessments to establish whether goals of the tutor and the learner have been met....
