Discuss issues of Equality and Diversity and ways to promote inclusion with your learners. Review other points of referral available to meet the potential needs of learners.

Equality is about the rights of learners to access,to attend and participate in their chosen learning experience.

  To ensure that you comply with the Equality act 2006 it is important to look at the six strands of the act
  AGE
  DISABILITY
  GENDER
  RACE
  RELIGION OR BELIEF
  SEXUAL ORIENTATION

Diversity is about valuing and respecting the differences in learners,regardless of age, ability and/or circumstances, or any other individual characteristics they may have.

When teaching it is necessary to promote inclusion within the group ,upon your initial meeting with the group it may be useful to use quizzes and discussions to raise the awareness of equality and diversity within the group .The terminology you use and the use of jargon or slang should be monitored so not to exclude members of the group through lack of understanding or miss communication. Avoid being judgemental and never assume that your students understand or don’t understand. When working within the group make sure that the whole class are treated equally and that there are no signs of favouritism or exclusion. No member of the group is the same all will have different needs and requirements and should be recognised and respected individually.
Material that is being used should be at an appropriate level for which the course is aimed and when using ohd or written material examples given should cover all six strands of the equality act where possible.
