Ptlls Unit 008 Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Lifelong Learning. 1.1

Assignment 1: Unit 008 – Roles, responsibilities and relationships in lifelong learning. 1.1

In my specialism as an English Language Teacher, it is important in my work to make sure the right legislation and regulatory requirements are met and adhered to.   This could include different acts such as:

Children Act 2004 - which is Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.
Every child matters are words of this act. It was made to allow every child access to being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving.   To achieve a good level of economic well-being and have a positive contribution. There are obviously many other parts to this act such as fostering, childcare, support services to families too.

The Department of Health(DoH)(2000) document No Secrets gave a definition of vulnerable adults.
A vulnerable adult is defined as a person ‘who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness; and who is or may be unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against significant harm or exploitation’
(Department of Health, 2000)

For this it would make it very important for me to make sure students are achieving to their full capability with all the right support they need.

Equality Act 2010
This came into law in October 2010. It replaces the Race Relations Act 1976 and the Disability Discrimination Act 1985 and makes sure there is continual consistency in what you do to ensure the workplace is fair and stay within the law of this act.   There are 9 protected categories, which are:

  1. Age
  2. Disability
  3. Gender
  4. Gender Identity
  5. Race
  6. Religion and Belief
  7. Sexual and Orientation
  8. Marriage and Civil Partnership
  9. Maternity and Pregnancy

This is to make sure that there is no discrimination against anyone.
In my role as a teacher it is important to make sure there is no discrimination in the above 9 product categories...
