In performing this role, the above Regulations place specific legal duties and responsibilities on me, which I am legally bound to comply with, and to ensure that health and safety is integrated into all elements of the design and management phases of all UKPN capital works projects from the start, and to encourage everyone involved in these projects to work together to improve the planning and management of the relevant projects, identify hazards and risks involved in these projects early on, and to target effort where it can do the most good in terms of health and safety and to discourage unnecessary bureaucracy.

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 are intended to focus the attention of Designers, Engineers and Project Managers on planning and management throughout the design and construction phases of all projects, from the initial design concept onwards; the aim being for health and safety considerations to be treated as an essential but normal part of the project's development, and not treated as an afterthought or bolt-on extra.

Generally in undertaking this role within the business, I am required to meet the competency standards defined within the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, and those additional requirements defined by UKPN within the   job description for my post, which in addition to defining my role and responsibilities, also outlines the Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience criteria that I am expected to meet or exceed.
