P3 Hsc Nurture vs Nature

Nature and nurture
In this assignment I will be discussing and evaluating the nature and nurture debate in relation to Cyntoia Brown case study and how it affects her Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social development. Some philosophers and theorists have argued that we are born to be the way we are. Other theorists have argued that it is the way we are brought up and influenced by our surroundings that makes us the way we are. This argument is known as the nature-nurture debate.   I will also be referring to the concepts of determinism, which is the belief that your future is fixed or determined either by what you have genetically inherited or by your social experience and environment, choice and interaction which is an alternative to determinism an it’s a belief that people can take control of their own lives through the choices they make. The biological programming concept refers to how our behaviour and body shape and size depend on the interaction of our biology with broader environmental factors and   the maturation theory is based on how some aspects of development such as the ability to speak a first language , are thought to be an due to the inbuilt genetic process

Life stage Nature Nurture
Infancy Many of Cyntoia’s family members suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts, so it seemed to run through their genes and Cyntoia therefore inherited those tendencies. This is nature as I think I derived from biological influences and genetics as Cyntoia wasn’t the only one who later developed a personality disorder. This relates to the concept of determinism as Cyntoias future was fixed by what she genetically inherited, which in this case would be the likelihood of having a personality disorder that affected her in her infancy. It could also link into the biological programming concept as her development and personality traits could have been influenced by genes.
During infancy Cyntoia...
