•   INTRODUCTION

• Brief explanation of what the essay is about. Its main aim to discuss and give evidence as to the use of mental images, concepts and schemas and how this will improve our memory.

• MAIN BODY


• Mental images what exactly are they explaining the terms for both picture thought and word thought. Giving an example by Spoors et al (2011) of effective use in learning a new language using the keyword technique.   Giving an example of an experiment by raugh and Atkinson (1975) done with students learning Spanish with two groups and the results to prove the effectiveness of the key word technique.

• Concepts and how they help us to organise our thoughts and put them into categories this process is called concept formation. An example Vehicle which has many sub concepts here are just a few Cars, Boats, Bikes, Planes and Trains.   Each of these has further sub concepts a bike for example touring bikes, Hybrid bikes, Mountain bikes, and motorised bikes. The original concept stays the same but can be expanded upon to add more into it.


• Schemas are the framework for our thoughts. A description of this     is a Doctor Categories occupation then association word list with the word doctor to give you your doctor Schema such as waiting room, dread. Patients, feeling unwell, examination, medication and so on reference to Bransford and Johnson (1972).  

• CONCLUSION

• Summarise how use of 3 areas of thinking discussed in the essay can help achieve better memory recall and how that more knowledge and better memory recall is more beneficial to us in the long run
