One Direction 'Modern Boyband

This essay contains the analysis of a one direction concert and will focus on one direction as a ‘modern boy band’ One direction is a boy band who originated from reality TV show the x factor. Since coming 3rd on the show the 5 boys Harry, Nial, Louis, Zayne and Liam who originally auditioned as solo artists and were put into a group, have had worldwide success and have grossed a whopping 100 million euro between them. With their popularity only growing and the upcoming release of the one direction movie the boys winning streak looks set to continue. One Direction is without a doubt the most successful boy band in history. with their Debut album, ‘Up All Night’ reaching No.1 in 15 countries with   their   Debut single,’ What Makes You Beautiful’ No.1 in UK and Ireland. The band was the first UK group to debut at No. 1 in USA with a debut album. One direction mania has clearly begun circulating the globe. With hordes of screaming girls at every show, what is it that makes one direction so popular?
Popular culture itself is distributed across many forms of mass communication including newspapers, magazines, radio, television, movies, music, books, cartoons, and advertising. It contrasts with high cultural art forms, such as opera, classical music and artworks, traditional theatre and literature.The term ‘popular’ music derived from rock and roll in the 1950s and has multiple meanings, according to Stuart hall ‘the most common sense meaning: the things which are said to be a popular ’because mass of people listen to them, buy them, read them, consume them, and seem to enjoy them to the full’. He states this is the ‘market or commercial definition of the term pop music aim is to appeal to a wide variety of audiences across cultures rather than a particular subculture.
