Adolescents well being
The word adolescence refers to an individual that is in their teenage years aged thirteen until nineteen. During this period of a time a transitional phase of growth and development between childhood and adulthood occurs. The changes that happen during this phase have been known to start at an earlier age. Biological processes start many aspects of this development, with the onset of puberty marking the passage from childhood to adolescence. During this period of time several developmental experiences occur. Besides physical and sexual maturation adolescence is not just marked by physical changes young people also experience cognitive, social, emotional and interpersonal changes. The fundamental purpose of development during adolescents is to form an identity and prepare for adulthood. Adolescence is therefore a time of tremendous growth and potential, however it is also a time were considerable risk is present for the individual experiencing this transition due to the social contexts powerful influences. (Swierzewski, 2008)
The changes adolescents experience are enormous and often young people face several challenges , such challenges could be within such as psychical or mental health problems or without, such as involvement in peer risking driven behavior or family breakdown. Another challenge that may be present is how the adolescent manages to cope with all the changes that are occurring during this period of time. This essay will discuss the factors that contribute to an adolescent’s well being during this transnational stage,   as research has shown that how the   adolescents copes with these changes and the life style behaviors chosen during early adolescents will influence the individuals well being in later life.(Polan & Taylor,2007).
