Adolescence and middle childhood is a stage in human development that brings a sense of excitement, freedom, and exploration as teenagers advance to maturity. Nevertheless, adolescence and middle childhood is a very challenging stage as teens make their independent choices and seek to establish and discover their personality. However, various pressures influence adolescence and middle childhood thus challenging the destiny of teenagers. Indeed, adolescents are subject to pressures like peer pressure, substance use and abuse, dating, sexuality, and changes within family relationships as they struggle to identify themselves and understand adulthood far from their families. Notably, peer pressure is dominant in adolescence and middle childhood.
Peer pressure coming from friends supports the decisions of adolescents (University of Michigan, 2013). Notably, this support can be positive or negative depending on the outcomes or the objectives of the peers. Indeed, peer pressure is very influence in adolescence and middle childhood as teenagers seek to identify themselves. Some of the results of peer pressure include immoral behaviors, premature sexual activities, drug and substance abuse, and changing family relationships (University of Michigan, 2013). In adolescence and middle childhood, teenagers develop strong relationships with their peers, which result to either positive or negative aspects that define the adolescent’s destiny. Most assuredly, negative peer pressure supersedes positive peer pressure and thus peer pressure mostly jeopardizes adolescent’s life. Nevertheless, positive aspects of peer pressure may lead to improved academic performance, ethical behaviors, healthy relationships, and motivation to live.
