I am Elaine. I work as a receptionist and my job involves communicating with people and other
members of the staff at the Ministry for Finance. I think that communication is the key to a
successful organisation. Furthermore, with good communication one can enhance performance.
Communication is about exchanging information and the understanding beyond that information.
Effective communication can lead to better interaction with others; improve team work and
problem solving.

Explain the relevance of the communication cycle for
effective communication in management
The communication cycle according to Argyle (1972) consists of 6 steps. There is the message where
one has to be clear and straight to the point so that the receiver would understand better what is
being communicated. Encode, when one has to think how they are going to say it. Send, when one
asks the questions. Decode, when one receives the message. Interpret, when one understands the
message on his own way and feedback, when the receiver sends a reply to check understanding.
When sending a message the first thing that has to be done is to develop the idea which is the
message that you want the listeners to receive. However, one has to convert such an idea in a way
that it can be clearly communicated to others. The message can be in many forms; oral, written,
symbolic and non verbal.
When the message arrives at the receivers they try to analyse and understand it. Communication
can be effective only when both the sender and the receiver have similar meaning for the message.
The last step is that the receiver gives a response to the sender of the message. By giving feedback
the communication would be more effective. One can be sure that the receiver has correctly
understood...
