Leadership and Management

      When it comes to leadership and management they are both considered to be the same, in many ways they are, but also have different processes. In the following paper I will define leadership and management and will then compare the two. I will also add a few of my own experiences.
      Leadership is very hard to define as there are different definitions for every individual out there as to what leadership should mean. People for many years have tried to come up with one single definition for leadership and in this day in age leadership means that it is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal (SAGE Publications, Inc. 2013). The process of leadership is the affect that happens between the leader and the follower, it is not a one way but more like an interactive event where the two collaborate to come up with ideas or solutions. A leader cannot be a leader without the ability to influence others and the leader also needs to have a group in order to lead. It is important that all members of the group including the leader have a common ground and or goal. Some people are believed to be born leaders, I myself do see myself as a leader but I think being the oldest of my siblings has made me that way. My parents at an early age had instilled that responsibility of the initiator and the one who holds higher responsibility than the rest in my family. With that said I do not think that there are natural born leaders so not a trait but more of a process.
      Management is very similar to leadership, they both consist of influencing, reaching a common goal, and working with others. The difference is that management was created to better control an organization to make them run more efficiently and effectively.
