Kuhn

Kuhn analysis

Kuhn finds that Poppers criterion of falsifiability that he uses to distinguish between science and pseudoscience is unsatisfactory because it des not take into account the way science has been conducted throughout history and it cannot separate astrology from science. He says the falsifiability is not actually a scientific process, its not what scientist are doing. Kuhn introduces his puzzle-solving process, which is more or less the scientific activity or what scientists are doing. “In their ordinary research, scientists try to connect their own problems to an accepted body of knowledge. Rather than put that accepted body of knowledge to the test scientists accept it as an established framework and strive to use it to solve particular puzzles. It is only when there are repeated failures to solve these small puzzles that scientists begin to look at the possibility of finding new foundations”(homepages.wmich,2016).
In Objectivity, Value Judgement and Theory Choice Kuhn says that within scientific paradigms there are shared values. It is necessary for all scientists to share the same paradigms and values because science is conducted within the borders of these scientific paradigms , science is objective in this regard.
According to Kuhn where traditional philosophy of science fails is that philosophers of science “assume that science can tell us something objectively true about the world, and that science is constamtly progressing closer and closer to some ultimate truth”(tinyjump.com, 2010). “As a result of Kuhns insistence that science is not the ultimate truth about anything ,he outlines five criteria upon which to judge the accuracy and objectivity of science. Firstly, accuracy in science is judged by scientific theories correspondence with the current scientific paradigm. Secondly, a theory must be internally and externally consistent. Third, a theory must have a broad scope. Fourth, a theory must be simplein that it unifies previously...
