Importance Od Safety and Health Policy


An occupational safety and health policy is the employer’s written commitment to workplace health and safety. In addition to clearly stating the safety and health goals of the business/organisation, this policy outlines roles and responsibilities as they relate to safety, health and environment.

Employers are responsible for their workers and have a legal and moral obligation to provide for their safety and well being. By having an occupational safety and health policy in workplace helps employers meet this responsibilitiy. It also helps them to effectively communicate their commitment to safety, health and environment to workers and the public.

Developing, implementing and maintaining an occupational safety and health policy also makes good economic sense. Accidents are costly, perhaps even more expensive than expected.   Thus, by developing and implimenting occupational safety and health policy, all costs below will can be reduced.

The Act provides a framework for consultation between employers and employees on safety and health. Effective consultation can make a real difference to workplace safety and health management.
