CRITIQUE OF A RESEARCH ARTICLE TITLED ‘THE EFFECT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EDUCATIONAL COUNSELLING IN REDUCING ANXIETY IN NURSING STUDENTS’.


This essay concerns an intervention programme aimed at reducing anxiety among nursing students.   I will critically evaluate the research article using the framework developed by Chrysi Leliopoulou (2002).   I will also consider the article’s contribution to knowledge in the nursing discipline; the possibilities for more research studies engendered by the outcome of this research; and its implications for nursing practice.   Finally, I will reflect on the learning experience gained from undertaking this critique exercise and how it has helped me in my professional development.

To achieve their objective, Sharif and Armitage (2004) investigated the effect of psychological and educational counselling on the anxiety prevalent among nursing students in the Faculty of Nursing in Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Iran.
