A. Notice of IEP
  1.
      a. The purpose of an IEP Meeting is to have the IEP team generate an individual program for a specific student that supports his or her progress through their general education classes. The IEP meeting must also meet any other educational and functional needs that the disability presents.
      b. Some outcomes of the IEP meeting will be setting educational goals that are fitting for the child. Services and accommodations can be established during the meeting.   Another outcome that may come out of the IEP meeting are if the child needs any other related services like to meet regularly with a speech therapist.
      c. The IEP meeting must insure that mandates are being followed. The child must be able to receive a free appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. Supplementary aids and services must be available as well. The child must also be assessed to determine the child’s need.

  3. In order for a party to be excused from the IEP meeting, all parties must agree in writing that the member’s attendance is not necessary.
  4.  
      i. The special education teacher should contact the parent ahead of time to discuss the child and to see how things are going at home for the child.
      j. The special education teacher should remind the parent(s) that they are an expert on their child and that their input is necessary to the process.
  5. The parents or guardians need to be an interactive member of a meeting because they are the expert of their child. They have insights into their child that no one else can have since they see them in their natural environment. They may have knowledge of...
